Will a Euro Pass cover Zurich to Lucern, Wilhelm Tell Express and to Venice?

We want to travel from Zurich airport to Lucern and then on the Wilhelm Tell Express to Lake Como. Then from Milan to Venice. All over a 2 week period. Can we just buy a Euro-Pass to cover all this, or do we need a different ticket in Switzerland vs Italy?

Im recently talking to this guy and we have been in the process of getting to know one another. He recently went on vacation to italy for a month and said he hoped i have a great summer and he mananged to keep in contact with me while he was there. He has asked me lots of questions such as whats my major? my hobbies? how many classes im taking this summer? etc. We met a few times at church and he wanted to hang out during this summer but i been busy with summer school and work that it was not possible. I'm getting a new kitten soon (will be about 13 weeks old when I get him) and right now the owner feeds her cats a mixed diet of both canned food (wellness core) and raw. So I would like to stick with this method since this is what he is use to and I know about the benefits of feeding raw. I would switch to 100% raw however as a college student I'm on a bit of a budget.

My question is however, I plan to order already ground chicken (with organs and bones) from Hare Today http://www. hare-today. com/product_info. p… do I need to add anything to this mix other than salmon oil and some extra taurine? Should I add water and if so how much?
Also how much food should I feed him of both the canned and the raw (like in tablespoons of ounces)? I planned on feeding canned in the morning with a couple chicken hearts for taurine. And then the ground chicken in the evening. Feeding raw can be so confusing so I want to make sure I'm going about this the right way.

At least for the first couple of months I'd say your best bet is to continue feeding the same diet he has been on. Get your specific information on this from the kitten's present owner.

It sounds like he is already on an excellent diet and there should be no need to change it although I agree with you that a properly balanced raw diet is best and most natural.

The food on that site should be properly balanced as is since it is the whole bird. You should not need to add taurine though you never really know how much has been lost in the grinding and freezing processes. More cautious to add a bit to be sure.

Don't add water to an already prepared food except in exceptional circumstances such as with an ill, dehydrated cat.

Salmon oil is not necessary but Omega-3 fats are one of those supplements that are good for man or beast anyway. So I think that is a good idea.

But if the kitten is not already eating fish oil hold off on adding any for a few weeks at least. It is stressful enough for a kitten to adapt to a new home. Allow him the comfort of his familiar food.

Determining how much to feed a kitten is easy. As much as he will eat! You should not restrict a growing kitten's food intake at all.

Adult cats eat in the ballpark of 2%-3% of their body weight ( if it is all real food, not stuff with fillers) but a kitten's requirement might be 3-4x that. If he weighs 3 pounds, try a total 6 ounces total a day to start then adjust.

If you want to switch him to 100% raw in the future you have plenty of time to do your research. You do not need to stay with a commercially prepared product once you understand the principles of raw feeding. Once you have done all your research you will find that feeding raw is actually LESS expensive than feeding commercial foods. But be sure to do that research first!

One more piece of advice. Once your kitten has settled in, very slowly add new foods both canned and raw to his diet. If you feed your cat only Wellness Core and HareToday's chicken you are going to end up with a stubborn cat who will eat only those foods.

Choose at least two more both high-quality canned and raw foods to incorporate into his diet.

For canned you could try a couple of the regular Wellness grain-free options. For raw try turkey and rabbit ( add taurine to rabbit).

It's probably a little too early to be trying to find a good airfare. Usually the discounts for October would come out around June or so. Also the flights to Naples from Detroit suck. You might have to change airports (Heathrow to Gatwick) on the way to Naples and back. There are cheaper and more convenient flights to Rome, which is about an hour and a half away.

My husband and I both started Nutrisystem almost 4 months ago. I have lost over 30 pounds, my husband has lost almost 30 pounds. They have a huge variety of food, and there is allot to love, and quite a few to dislike. Everything is done online so it's really easy to pick out your menu and the cost is the same as what I spent at the grocery store anyway. It has been completely painless, I love almost all their deserts and always look forward to those! I have not excercised at all, and my husband works and plays golf and that's been his excercise. It is the easiest way I could ever imagine to lose weight. There are no membership fees, which is a big plus. I have been very impressed with their whole program. I never get hungry and I feel so much better and more energetic getting reid of that excess weight. It's definitly worth it. There's this girl in my office whom I hate and feel jealousy toward for some reason. Perhaps it's my insecurity that makes me jealous, yes, because she gets alot of male attention. But that's my problem...

However, I don't understand why I hate her. She is so annoying. She's loud, wears alot of makeup, wears tight clothes and talks about the most stupid things. She just talks about dieting and clothes and goes shopping all the time. I can't stand working next to her. I definitely don't secretly want to be her. So why do I hate her so much? If I were you, I'd hate her for a few reasons. First of all, she's using very cheap tactics to get attention. Like babies to shiny objects, guys are going to be attracted to someone whose displaying all her assets because she comes off as easy. Most men don't mind easy. I suspect that you might value getting attention for being a quality person-- having a good sense of humor, being intelligent, being talented at what you do, rather than simply showing off your body in the most vulgar way.

Second, I'd probably be annoyed at how her behavior reflects on the other women. Her behaving this way might make the other (actually professional) women look like prudes (at least to the men in the workplace). Also, I personally hate meeting women like her because they seem to be the absolute stereotype of the frivolous, shallow woman. So, frankly, they make other women look bad.

The way you can deal with the jealousy of getting less male attention is to ask yourself, do you really want the attentions of such "typical" guys who could only be attracted to a tight sweater and who don't see other more important qualities in a person? Focus on how silly she looks as she parades around. Based on your description, I bet this girl does her fair share of coquettish posing, so just be smug and a have a good laugh to yourself, because at the end of the day, she's clowning herself up desperately for attention, and you aren't. :) Good luck!

A month and a half ago I found out the girl I was with was talking to someone else. At this time My ex and I have not talked for 1 week and a half, for about a month I fought for her like no other, tried everything to get her back. I love her to death we were together for 5 years. She left me for another man and says she is in love with him, it is all over facebook and she is extremely public about it. She even tattooed his name on her wrist. She thinks the guy is perfect, she is obessesed with him after their short time together. The guy is a known bad boy and player. He has a really bad rep. I am the exact opposite. I'm a 23 y/o guy, I've never heard of candida before today, I have had extremely itchy ears lately and found it in my research, what scared me was that I had MOST of the common symptoms listed (from moderately-high to severe).

I realize that it's too easy to diagnose yourself with different problems because the symptoms can be common for many reasons, but I am really wondering if this is what I've been dealing with.

Here are my symptoms.

Frequent stomach pains and digestion problems
(I have had this problem for most of my life, I've asumed it was IBS or something)
Skin problems (skin infections, eczema, psoriasis, acne)
(Last year I was diagnosed wtih eczema)
Foggy brain / Trouble concentrating
(Any family member or friend will tell you this is one of my worst problems)
Constant tiredness and exhaustion
(I've been complaining about always being tired for years, my constant tiredness has ruined a relationship)
Anxiety
(I was recently hospitalized for an anxiety attack and am now taking prozac)
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
(Haven't been diagnosed, but strongly think I have symptoms of mild OCD)
Irritability
(Always irritable)
Headaches
(My last girlfriend would carry meds around just because I always had headaches)
Intense cravings for sugars, sweets, and breads
(litterally, these 3 things constitute 90% of my diet, I ONLY crave sweets)
Itchy ears
(so itchy, that I've scratched them to the point of swelling)
Itchy anus
(embarrassing, but it has occasionally been almost unbearable)

Do you think this is what I have? Does it have to be diagnosed by a Dr.? (I don't have health ins and can't really afford one currently)

My Vampire Fan Fiction?

I was trying to think of a story to write and came up with a few ideas. What do you think of it?

Title:Vampires:----(Can you help with the title, please?)
Characters:Valentina Jefferson, Damon Brooks, Asha Michaels, Jake Moore, Drake Card
Summary:Valentina, a 3000 year old vampire finally found a place where vampires could ''live in peace'' and not have to be hunted by humans. She even falls in love with a handsome 3020 year old vampire, Damon Brooks. But when Damon's best friend, Drake, becomes jealous, he puts Damon's vampiric abilities and trust to the test and even puts Valentina's life at risk. Damon must do everything in his power to the one he loves, or has to live the rest of eternity alone.

PS. I know the ending is a bit cheesy but I couldn't think of anything. So....Feedback? And a title please?

Answer on My Vampire Fan Fiction?

This sounds kind of boring for a description. Great names though. I'd say since "vampires" is a boring title, try something exotic for a title. Have you ever heard of someone buying a book about vampires and stuff like that with a extremely boring title. Try something like "Dark Love", "Hunting Love" or something like that. Something deep/meaningful, dark/ mysterious for a title.

First, write the book BEFORE having a title since you may want to change the title later on or it may be easier to create a title. Also, if you are wanting to publish this, make sure that you do NOT have the same title as someone else due to copyrights and similar stuff.

Personally, I'd never want to read that book since I'm more into the mystery/action/adventure/betrayal novels. But since I'm not into the romance, it's okay.

You will find lots and lots of people that would want to read that.

Focus on the title, plot development and scenes and do not copy other authors and you will be okay.

Florida's health insurance advocacy group, FreeHealth, pushes for low cost coverage for every resident and suggests a few pennies can pay for all. FreeHealth, a group supporting universal health coverage in Florida, said last year more than 340,000 Florida residents lost their high-end or tech jobs, and the health care coverage that went along with it. The Wall Street Journal published a report on health care in America and they found that the average family of four paid $12,000 per year in premiums, and deductibles. Malone said its group is sponsoring a state-wide march this fall in every city in Florida as a way of kicking off their 'FLACare' campaign. "Supporters of the measure should turn out at our events, and contact their Congressmen" monthly and let them know you support FreeHealth's plan for health insurance. When asked what residents can do to get better rates now, Malone said, "your best bet is to hire a health insurance consultant."

Currently the health rates in Florida have forced many to drop their health insurance policies. Premiums now top $10,000 per year, per family; $4500 for individual health insurance policies. Clinton and Obama have similar plans, said Moran. Like Clinton, "Obama wants to do whatever he can to make health insurance more affordable for individuals and businesses." This way, Obama said, "everybody can buy what is best for them and their family."

Clinton, Obama and even Edwards feel that millions of Americans do not have health insurance because it is too costly; not because they would rather save a few dollars. On the other hand -- the Republicans offer tax cuts to allow for health care premiums, while not repairing the health care system, Moran said.

I want to go to Italy for a week with my grandpa. We want to start in Rome then go around to the different cities and possibly to Sicily. We would most likely go in March before Easter. I'm just looking for some good information. A rough estimate? Where can I go to look for information? Anything else I need to know? Thanks very much in advance.

Answer on How much would a trip to Italy cost for two people for one week?

Italy is a large country, full of interesting cities and most cities are full of interesting things to see. If you stay just one week, the best way to throw away your money without enjoying your travel is running around from one city to another: trains are expensive, distances are not short and you would spend most of your time travelling instead of enjoying the sites.
If you want to see Rome and something of Sicily, and nothing else, one week is hardly enough for that. Rome itself would deserve one week to be visited in a satisfactory way. Sicily is large, and the most interesting places are far one from another; trains in Sicily are particularly slow. I suggest to wonder what you really prefer to see, to choose one or two areas and to see well and without hurry that. In my opinion, it is the best way to travel, relaxing, enjoying life and cultures of the places that one visits and not just seeing some monuments, and also saving a lot of money. In one week, I think that manageable plans would be:
- Milan, Verona and Venice
- Venice and Veneto
- Venice, Bologna and Florence
- Florence and Tuscany
- Rome and Florence
- Rome and Umbria
- Rome and Naples
- just Rome (it is absolutely not too much for a thorough visit)

The relevant market equals the company's sales if it were to capture 100% of its specific niche of the market. Conversely, stating that you were competing in the $1 trillion U. S. healthcare market, for example, is a telltale sign of a poorly reasoned business plan, as there is no company that could reap $1 trillion in healthcare sales. Defining and communicating a credible relevant market size is far more powerful than presenting generic industry figures.

The challenge that many firms face is their inability to size their relevant markets, particularly if they are competing in new or rapidly evolving markets. On one hand, the fact that the markets are new or evolving is the reason why there may be a large opportunity to establish them and become the market leader. Conversely, investors, shareholders and senior management are often skeptical to invest resources because, since the markets do not yet exist, the markets may be too small, or not really exist at all.

Growthink has encountered the challenge of sizing emerging markets numerous times and has developed a proprietary methodology to solve the problem. Customers: what are the demographics and psychographics of the customers you will be targeting; what products are they currently using to fulfill a similar need (substitute products); how are they currently purchasing these products; what is their degree of loyalty to current providers, etc.

Market factors: what other factors exist that will influence the market size – government regulations; market consolidation in related markets, price changes for raw materials, etc.

Case Studies: what other markets have experience similar transformations and what were the customer adoption rates in those markets, etc.

While these methodologies are often more painstaking than traditional market research techniques, they can be the difference in determining whether your company has the next iPod or the next Edsel.

Long-Term Data Continues to Highlight Potential of NeoVista's Epimacular Brachytherapy Procedure

NeoVista, Inc. made public today at the Combined Retina Meeting, 24-month data from the company's Phase II study (NVI-111). The study was designed to examine the company's novel epimacular brachytherapy procedure when used in conjunction with Bevacizumab anti-VEGF therapy for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The long-term data from the study showed that a majority of patients maintained their visual acuity and at least 20% also experienced a marked improvement in vision at month 24. The data also showed that 76 percent of the patients only needed 2 protocol required injections of Avastin® throughout the 24-month period.

"We're excited with the latest data from this Phase II study, said John N. Hendrick, President and CEO of NeoVista. "Safety remains the primary purpose of this study and to date there is no evidence of long-term radiation toxicity at 2 years follow-up, with many patients being followed for as long as 3 years. A large majority of patients in the study maintained their visual acuity over the course of follow-up, while some patients in the trial experienced significant vision gain. We are encouraged by the reduction in the number of injections delivered to patients in this study (mean of 2.4 injections over the 24 month period). This therapy has the potential to decrease treatment burden both for patients and physicians, not to mention the overall financial burden for healthcare systems around the world."

In contrast to other forms of radiation therapy for wet AMD, NeoVista's approach delivers a focused dose of energy directly to the choroidal neovascular lesion without damaging the adjacent healthy retinal vasculature. Utilizing strontium 90, the focused energy is delivered to a target area up to 3 mm in depth and up to 5.4 mm in diameter. Importantly for patients, the systemic exposure to radiation is minimal, as the effective dose to the entire body from NeoVista's epimacular device is less than that from a typical chest x-ray.

The ongoing multicenter feasibility study enrolled 34 trial participants (with a mean age of 72 years) from June 2006 to April 2007 at two centers in Brazil and one in Mexico. These patients, with predominantly classic, minimally classic, or occult (with no classic) choroidal neovascularization (CNV), received a single exposure of epimacular brachytherapy in combination with two intravitreal injections of Avastin, one dose prior to or at the time of radiation delivery and another one month later, depending on which arm of the trial the patient was enrolled in. Additional therapy was delivered based upon the investigator's evaluation of disease activity.

There was an expected increase in the incidence (50%) of cataract formation related to the vitrectomy, the surgical procedure performed when administering epimacular brachytherapy. Comparative data was examined to look at outcomes of patients who entered the study with their natural lens versus those who had already undergone cataract surgery. This analysis showed that 80% of patients who had cataract surgery prior to study entry maintained their visual acuity and 30% gained significant vision at 24 months. When comparing to the cohort of patients that entered the study with their natural lens, 65% percent of patients maintained their visual acuity and 20% percent had significant vision gain, highlighting the fact that cataract formation played a role in long term visual acuity data..

There were a limited number of adverse events in the trial which were related to the vitrectomy procedure (retinal tear, retinal detachment, subretinal hemorrhage, and vitreous hemorrhage), rather than the epimacular brachytherapy. To date, no instances of radiation toxicity have been reported with many patients followed for as long as 3 years.

The data were presented by Pravin U. Dugel, MD, managing partner, Retina Consultants of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ. "The potential of this treatment is enormous", said Dr. Dugel. "I believe that epimacular brachytherapy will be used in combination with the current standard of care to make this treatment more effective by offering a broad spectrum of action. In addition, epimacular brachytherapy may also improve the quality of life for our patients by relieving them from having to receive monthly intraocular injections. The potential impact of epimacular brachytherapy for patients, physicians and the entire healthcare system is prodigious".

NeoVista has recently completed enrollment in the company's first pivotal trial, CABERNET (CNV Secondary to AMD Treated with BEta RadiatioN Epiretinal Therapy). Court Orders Gloucester Petitioners to Pay $80,000 Towards County Legal Fees for Failed Removal Effort

Substitute Circuit Court Judge Westbrook J. Parker, in the removal petition cases filed against four members of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisor members, ruled yesterday that the 40 petitioners must pay sanctions of $2000 each, a result that vindicates the Supervisors, said James E. Cornwell, Jr., a local government lawyer with the firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller who was retained by two of the defendants.

The Court ordered Gloucester County to pay the Supervisors' legal fees in the defense of the removal petitions and allows the funds recovered under the sanctions to be used to reimburse the County, representing a substantial portion of the legal fees for the defense. Cornwell represented Supervisors against whom criminal and removal petitions had been filed.

"This arduous process, where the charges filed in the summer were dismissed last month with prejudice and now the removal petitions are dismissed, has put a severe burden on these individuals and Gloucester County," remarked Cornwell, after the verdict. "We are obviously gratified that the Court found in their favor. By his award of sanctions, we feel that the Circuit Court Judge sent a strong message that misuse of the judicial process for political reasons will not be tolerated."

Daniel M. Siegel, chair of the Local Government practice group at the law firm, added, "We feel honored to have been called on to defend innocent elected officials, who have been unjustly harassed by a disgruntled group trying to use the legal system to circumvent the election process."

Calling the actions of the criminal charges and petitions for removal, attempts to thwart the democratic process, Judge Parker said he had "never seen more misuse of the judicial system." The members of the Board of Supervisors had been charged by a special grand jury of misconduct in office and tied up in legal procedures for about six months.

"We think that the results certainly bear out the conclusion that these duly-elected county officials were within their responsibilities when they made decisions about staff responsibilities," noted Cornwell. "We hope that this decision puts the matter to rest and that our clients can now get back to the job of serving the citizens who elected them."

Cornwell, who manages the law firm's Blacksburg office, is a well-known local government attorney. He has served a number of localities and authorities in his career as county and town attorney or special counsel. The Gloucester assignment came because the Board was familiar with the firm's Local Government practice group through earlier work with the county.

Walden University's cyberspace chapter of Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), a society for professional educators, awarded its first two Simon-Poppenhagen Scholarships to Walden Ph. D. in Education students Candace Stine and Sandy Wenzel.

The scholarships, one for $500 and the other for $1,000, honor a former Walden education dean, Dr. Brent Poppenhagen, and a current education faculty member, Dr. Marilyn K. Simon, who are both founding members of the chapter.

Candace Stine lives in Broken Arrow, Okla. The third-grade teacher works in a Title I instruction program and tutors upper-elementary-aged children struggling in reading and math. Sandy Wenzel lives in Madison, Wis., where she is an upper-elementary-level special education teacher.
"We have two extremely worthy recipients of our first Simon-Poppenhagen scholarships," says Simon. "Both Sandy and Candy epitomize Walden's mission of social change."

Stine is seeking her Ph. D. with the hope of becoming a full-time college instructor. "My dissertation will investigate teacher efficacy relative to quality professional development," Stine says. She wants to use her dissertation as preliminary research for a more formal study of teacher-education
Programs.

Wenzel is earning her Ph. D. with the goals of one day working in educational leadership in secondary or higher education and teaching at the college level. Her dissertation will address the overrepresentation of African-American boys in special education. "This is a significant and chronic problem, and my study may contribute to the scholarly literature on the topic," she says.

Just be active.

Eat lots of fruits. Drink water.

You don't have to be a saint. You can eat a couple of cookies if you'd like to.

Just remember to exercise. That really is the key to weight loss.

Eventually, after eating nicely with fruits, and veggies, and meats like chicken, you won't even want to have a cookie. They're just pollutants to your stomach.

When I say exercise, I mean... well, you don't have to full-out exercise, just pick a sport you like and commit to do it every day for at least half an hour. Walk places whenever you can, ride your bike, try to be active with your friends... take the stairs instead of the elevator. There are tons of things you can do to supplement at least one hour of exercise a day.

As far as meals go, try and eat healthy. For example, at breakfast, instead of having a bagel with cream cheese, have a bowl of special K instead.

Just hold your head up high, and the pounds will come off in no time.

Overweight males in white-collar jobs are most apt to suffer from adult flatfoot disorder, a progressive condition characterized by partial or total collapse of the arch, according to the research. “As in most progressive foot disorders, early treatment for flatfoot disorder is also the patient’s best route for optimal success in controlling symptoms and additional damage to the feet,” continued Collins. “The goal is to keep patients active, healthy and as pain free as possible.”

Kentucky Equality Association sends letter and information to Boone County High School regarding the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance.

After receiving reports that officials at Boone County High School could be delaying the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance (“GSA”), the Kentucky Equality Association has sent a letter and information pamphlets to the school’s principal. The information sent to the school is entitled “Just the Facts” and has been endorsed by the American Association of School Administrators, American Federation of Teachers, American Psychological Association, American School Health Association, National Association of Social Workers, and the National Education Association, among others.

The federal Equal Access Act requires schools to treat GSA’s as they would any other school group, according to the letter sent Tuesday to Ms. Peggy Brooks the principal of Boone County High School.

The Kentucky Equality Association believes delaying or denying the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance would also violate the Kentucky Education Reform Act.

According to information obtained from the school’s website, 16 clubs are currently active in the school including a club dedicated to the animated cartoon, Anime.

A GSA provides a place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation, and work to end homophobia. Many GSA’s function as a support group and provide safety and confidentiality to students who are struggling with their identity as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

Federal courts have repeatedly ruled in favor of GSA’s where schools tried to block their formation, upholding students' right to form the groups in Salt Lake City, Utah, Orange, California, Franklin Township, Indiana, and Boyd County, Kentucky.

The Kentucky Equality Association has offered to make additional information available to any official or student of Boone County High School. “The Kentucky Equality Association will be pleased to provide information and data sheets about GSA’s to any other school official or student in the commonwealth,” stated Jordan Palmer, association president.

The Advisory Council of the Kentucky Equality Association will continue to monitor the formation of the GSA club at Boone County High School through its members.

Statement of Need:
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents approximately 85% of all lung cancers. Lung cancer represents the most common cancer-related cause of death in men and women. Survival rates for patients with NSCLC are dismal, with fewer than 15% alive at year two and less than 1% alive at year five. Although often considered a preventable disease because of the relationship of lung malignancies to smoking, approximately 10% of cases occur in individuals who have never smoked. Emerging evidence from clinical studies indicates that lung tumors in these patients have been associated with a different phenotype and have a different molecular profile requiring individualized therapy. An increased understanding of the molecular and histologic basis of NSCLC has led to the identification of a number of suitable targets for treatment or chemoprevention of lung cancer. The goal of traditional therapies was to eradicate malignant cells. Emerging molecular therapies target the physiology of cancer and hold promise for better individual and combination therapies for advanced NSCLC to extend survival and preserve an acceptable quality of life. This two-part activity will explore the evolving understanding of NSCLC and report on emerging evidence for targeted, individualized treatment strategies.

The all-female expedition is designed for at-risk young women ages 13 to 18. when you eat really depends on your stomach. if you can handle doing the punching bag on an empty stomach and not get sick and you want to then dont eat before you do it. it also could possible burn more calories and fat on an empty stomach. but it is important to eat something afterward like carbs. oh and yes i think that a punching bag would be a little more effective than jogging. and i think that 3 times a day to exhaustion is too much. please be careful. and i think that one time a day (not even to exhaustion) will suffice. hope ive helped

HCA Hospital Found Negligent for Leaving Sponge in Patient

A Denton County jury has awarded a Lewisville man and his wife $1.27 million for injuries he suffered after an operation at the Medical Center of Lewisville, in which nurses mistakenly left a sponge inside his body.

The Medical Center of Lewisville is a subsidiary of HCA, Inc., one of the nationÂs largest owners and managers of hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

In December 2001, 62-year-old Sidney Eads went to the Medical Center of Lewisville complaining of abdominal pain. Doctors there diagnosed a perforated colon and operated to correct the problem. Three weeks later however, Mr. Eads was back at the hospital in severe pain. A CT scan showed nurses had neglected to remove a surgical sponge from Mr. EadsÂ abdomen during the initial surgery, creating an abscess that made a hole in his small intestine. It was the second time in 18 months that the hospital had experienced such a problem with a surgical patient.

In addition to more surgery, Mr. Eads had to endure 40 days with no food or water. The inability to eat or drink caused problems with his gallbladder, which doctors subsequently removed as well. Mr. Eads lost strength and needed months of physical therapy simply to regain the ability to brush his teeth or shower. Mr. Eads, who runs a photography business, was unable to work for most of 2002, causing his business to suffer.

ÂThis was a nightmare for Sidney, plain and simple Â a nightmare that didnÂt have to happen,Â says attorney Greg Marks, who along with attorney Frank Branson, represented Mr. Eads. ÂHe went to the hospital seeking help for a problem and they ended up making it much worse. ThatÂs the exact opposite of what a healthcare facility is supposed to do.Â

The verdict from the seven-man, five-woman jury came in Judge Jake CollierÂs 158th Judicial District Court in Denton. Following the verdict in Sidney Wayne Eads, et al. v. HCA Healthcare Services of Texas, et al. (Cause No. 2003-20109-158), the parties agreed to settle the case for a confidential amount. As part of that settlement, the hospital agreed to change its policies in order to prevent such a mistake from happening in the future.
